Last week, President Trump withdrew the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The reason is straightforward: Rep. Stefanik is needed to preserve a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. According to an article in Politico:
“The New York Republican, who had yet to resign her seat, was expected to be easily confirmed to the post, with more than enough votes to pass, but concern about Republicans’ narrow majority stalled her confirmation.
Trump said on Truth Social that he had asked Stefanik to stay in Congress to help him accomplish his agenda, calling her one of his “biggest allies.”
“With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat,” Trump wrote.”
Rep. Stefanik would have made an outstanding Ambassador. While it is a loss for her and the UN, she has been a terrific friend of broadcasters in New York. Last year, she co-sponsored the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act and the Local Radio Freedom Act. So, from our perspective, welcome back Rep. Stefanik.
