At last week’s meeting, the NYSBA Board of Directors approved a new “in-person” leadership training course for members in good standing. The Fellowship prepares aspiring department head-level media professionals for station, c-suite, and industry-forward leadership. The MBA-styled program is designed to teach the business of the business in a safe and exciting learning environment. Fellows will learn the core operating strategies and leadership fundamentals from experienced media professionals, collaborate in small peer groups, and receive individual coaching. The training sessions will focus on:
Leadership: Understanding your leadership strengths, building a high-functioning, ethical leadership team and station culture
Revenue Development: Sales fundamentals, multi-platform revenue strategies, and creating a revenue-driven team
News Operations: Editorial decision-making, multi-platform content development, and growing audiences in a mission/vision-driven, data-centric, AI environment
Broadcast Accounting: Understanding station financials, broadcast cash flow, living budgets, and annual plan building
Strategic Planning: Vision and Tactic - Setting aspirational goals, agreeing on benchmarks, and building engagement
Confident Leadership: Keep Calm & Carry on: Stories and best practices from today’s industry leaders.
Partners in Your Success: Working with your Legal, Human Resources, Engineering, and Creative Services professionals.
The sessions will be open to around 20 young executives. Sessions will be held monthly in Albany starting in March 2025. Marc Jaromin, President of Roundtable Unlimited, will be coordinating the program for NYSBA. Marc brings years of experience assisting the NAB Leadership Foundation’s leadership training program.
