A broadcasting career encompasses the full panoply of communications media and services.  Dynamic opportunities are available for both audio and video services. This includes traditional radio and television as well as an expanding array of digital services. This includes careers in content creation, production, news, sales, engineering, business administration, podcasts as well as on-air opportunities.

 

Local broadcasting offers professionals a variety of career experiences across the state. Employment opportunities exist in small markets such as Watertown, Binghamton, Plattsburgh, and Corning, where a person may be responsible for multiple professional tasks at a small station. New York also has several medium-sized markets, such as Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, and Long Island, which provide opportunities for significant career advancement. Of course, there is New York City, the largest and most competitive media market in the world.

The total economic impact (direct and indirect) of local broadcasting in New York State amounts to $74.93 billion dollars. In terms of direct economic activity, local broadcast stations account for $3.38 billion.  Most importantly. local stations are directly responsible for 16,970 jobs. If you consider fields that are associated with local broadcasting, the total number of jobs amounts to 135,973 jobs.
