Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the commissioner of health has designated COVID-19 a highly contagious communicable disease that presents a serious risk of harm to the public health under New York State’s HERO Act, which requires all employers to implement workplace safety plans in the event of an airborne infectious disease, helping to prevent workplace infections.
All employers, including broadcasters, are required to have an airborne infectious disease safety plan in place. While employers did not have to file the plans with the Department of Labor, they were required to have plans on file and be ready to go in the event an infectious airborne alert was triggered. All employers must now implement these plans.
