As we noted last week, a National EAS Test is scheduled for August 11, 2021, at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), with a backup date of August 25, 2021 at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). This will be a traditional EAS test. FEMA will not be using the IPAWS system. So now is the time to make sure your EAS equipment is operating and that you can receive signals from your monitoring assignments. Your monitoring assignments can be found on the NYSBA website by clicking HERE.
In addition, make sure your EAS equipment has the correct NPT code loaded in the incoming filter section. It should be set up to receive and process the NPT code, with the “six zeroes” national location code, and otherwise operate in compliance with the Commission rules. Also verify that the EAS equipment is operating with most up to date firmware. Contact your equipment vendor if you are not sure about the firmware version.
Remember the FCC’s ETRS Form 1 is due July 6th. To help stations navigate the FCC’s forms, noted communications engineer Larry Wilkins has prepared a video walking you through the process. To access the video click HERE.
