For 18 months, FEMA has been telling IPAWS users that it is updating its Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. The change went into effect yesterday, July 6th. If your station’s EAS equipment has not been updated it could affect your station’s ability to receive EAS messages from IPAWS. TLS is a cryptographic protocol that provides end-to-end communications security over networks and is widely used for internet communications and online transactions. TLS is more efficient and secure than the SSL system that is in place.
