NYSBA Lobbies for Additional SBA PPP Funds and Expansion of Eligibility Requirements

NYSBA is continuing it’s efforts to help local broadcasters.  Last week we reported on a Congressional letter to the Administration asking that it purchase advertising time on local stations.  The letter was signed by more than 240 members of Congress and 19 members of the NY congressional Delegation.

At the same time Senator Schumer co-sponsored a similar letter in the Senate. The letter obtained the signatures of 74 U.S. Senators, including Senator Gillibrand.

We have been actively lobbying for additional SBA funding of the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL), which was passed the Congress and signed into law by the President.

We have now shifted focus on to the next version of the COVID 19 relief legislation.  Unfortunately, current SBA rules exclude a number of local broadcasters from participating in the SBA programs.

We will be asking Congress to expand eligibility for local stations.  To this end we have been seeking to obtain signatures on a “Dear Colleague” letter from members of Congress.  As we go to press nearly 100 members of congress have signed on to the letter, including 12 members of the NY Congressional Delegation.  So far the New York members include:

  • Anthony Brindisi
  • Antonio Delgado
  • Adriano Espaillat
  • Brian Higgins
  • Hakeem Jeffries
  • John Katko
  • Peter King
  • Sean P. Maloney
  • Grace Meng
  • Joe Morelle
  • Kathleen Rice
  • Max Rose

We had more representatives signing the letter than any other state, including California. We will continue our efforts to help local stations. Stay tuned…
