Donovan Recognized for Pirate Act Efforts by NAB, Sen. Schumer, FCC Com. Mike O’Rielly and Cong. Tonko

NYSBA took the lead in seeking to change the Communications Act to increase the penalties for operating an illegal radio station without a license.  These efforts were recognized at the recent NAB State Leadership Conference.

NAB President Senator Gordon Smith recognized NYSBA President David Donovan for his efforts in getting the bill passed.  A copy of the bill signed by the President was presented to Donovan by FCC Commissioner Michael O’Rielly.  The bill included personal notes from Congressman Paul Tonko and Commissioner O’Rielly.  The next day Senator Chuck Schumer presented Donovan with a signed copy of the bill from the U.S. Senate.

Donovan thanked the NAB, the State Broadcasting Associations and the iHeart Washington office for their efforts in getting the bill passed.  He especially thanked FCC Commissioner Mike O’Rielly for championing the bill in Congress and at the FCC.

We now look forward to working with the FCC to implement the bill in a timely manner.
