Despite Increased Enforcement Efforts Pirates Still Plague Metro New York City

Last week Commissioner Mike O’Rielly visited New York City.  He estimates that there are about 100 to 150 illegal pirate stations operating in the New York Metropolitan Area.  His assessment was contained in a recent post on Twitter.

“Spent morning/early afternoon in New York City getting an update on pirate radio situation & hunting illegal operators. 100 to 150 still exist in metro area. Field team focused on stopping but obstacles remain. I’ll be returning soon.”

We agree with his assessment. Despite increased enforcement efforts, there is a tremendous amount of work left to do.  We are working hard to give the FCC more enforcement tools.  The radio industry owes Commissioner O’Rielly a debt of gratitude on this issue.  He has been unwavering in his support.  We hope to see the PIRATE Act S.1228 pass the Senate soon.
