New York has always been a leader in the broadcast profession. We celebrated this leadership last week during the NAB NY show at NYSBA’s annual Broadcast Leadership and Hall of Fame Luncheon. Chuck Samuels, VP GM of WHAM-TV Rochester and Chairman of the NYSBA Board welcomed the capacity crowd. Ed Levine, CEO of Galaxy Media and Chairman of the NYSBA Hall of Fame Committee served as emcee. Several members of the NABboard of Directors attended the luncheon.

David Muir – 2018 Broadcaster of the Year
David Muir, Anchor of ABC World News Tonight, was honored as the 2018 Broadcasters of the Year. A native New Yorker (from Syracuse) his acceptance speech focused on the importance of journalism.
Muir’s powerful speech noted the role broadcast news plays is highlighting the stories of those who do not have a voice.
Hall of Fame Inductees:
Dave Davis
Dave Davis, former President and GM of WABC-TV and Chairman of NYSBA talked about his career and the importance of local news. Unlike the partisanship we see on many cable news channels, he noted that local news provides communities with essential, straight forward information. This approach is critical to providing citizens with the information they need, and it brings communities together.
Michael Kay
Michael Kay noted the need for perseverance when choosing a career in broadcasting.
He also remarked that next year at this time he would be doing the play by play for the New York Yankees in the World Series.
Doug Emblidge & Ginny Ryan
WHAM-TV’s award winning new steam of Doug Emblidge and Ginny Ryan each gave a heartfelt acceptance speech. Both are devoted to Rochester, and they emphasized the need to focus on serving local community needs.

Maureen Donnelly accepted the award on behalf of her late husband “Big Dan” Ingram. She discussed several stories about Dan Ingram’s career, a career that has influenced DJ’s across the United States.
