NEW YORK, N.Y.-February 26, 2010 – PIX, Tribune Broadcasting’s New York CW affiliate has named Dave Manney Managing Editor. Manney, an award-winning broadcast, media, and internet veteran will join the station on March 1.
In this newly created position, Manney will serve as Managing Editor of all station news content, on all PIX platforms and will be the chief news liaison to Tribune Interactive.
Manney joins PIX from Detroit Public TV, where he has been the Director of Content. Previous to that, he was Online News Director for WXYZ (ABC) in Detroit from 2006 to 2008. His return to New York City is a reunion with PIX News Director Bill Carey, who worked with Manney at WXYZ.
“Dave’s a perfect fit for our management team and for the reporters and content producers he’ll be overseeing in the newsroom. He is creative, a solid journalist, and knows how to bring out the best in those around him. I’m thrilled to be teamed with him again,” offers Carey.
Prior to his post at WXYZ, Manney worked in magazine publishing, serving as Editorial Director of HOUR MEDIA, overseeing editorial and design for Michigan’s top monthly city/regional magazine, Hour Detroit and creating a bi-monthly magazine for executives, DBusiness.
Manney has also served in the public sector where he was Director of Communications for the City of Detroit from 2003 to 2005. Before that, he was the Assistant News Director under Bill Carey for WXYZ from 2000 to 2003, where he ran the daily operations and helped form the strategy and led the execution that led the legacy station from third to first place in news ratings, including 47 hours of non-stop coverage during the Blackout of 2003. He was also Executive Producer, Programming, where he oversaw a 14-camera, 2 hour annual live event coverage of the International Auto Show, developed Detroit’s first mobile, wireless live report system, and produced a documentary that won a national Edward R. Murrow Award.
As an investigative and special report producer at WXYZ Manney created and produced Detroit’s first interactive (TV/Internet/phone) news special. He also served as Special Projects Producer for WJBK (Fox) in 1995.
Manney also has international experience, having served as an assistant producer for CNN in Mexico City in 1994, a Communications Coordinator in Bosnia and Croatia in 1993 for Mercy International, and was an Account Coordinator for MS&L Public Relations in New York City from 1992 to 1993.
Manney and his wife will relocate to Brooklyn and he will begin his duties at PIX on March 1.
